Definition of Focus:
1. “A central point; point of concentration.” (Webster 1928 dictionary)
2. “A center of activity, attraction, or attention; a point of concentration.” (Today’s definition)
Focus is an action. It is an action that is not easy to do, but if we focus on something worthwhile, the benefits are worth all the work. Especially if we focus on what GOD has called us to do.
In the natural, if someone wants to run a 5K or the Boston Marathon, it will take focus and a lot of hard work. The Boston Marathon, of course, would take a whole lot more work than a 5K.
For me, before I play the piano and sing in public, I will practice one song hundreds of times until my muscle memory kicks in, both vocally and for my fingers. Even though I have been in the music field for over 50 years and know hundreds of songs, I still have to put my whole attention on a new song in order to get it in my heart. However, the time and work I put into my craft doesn’t seem long or hard because I love being a musician.
Yet there is something more important than our professions and any sports. It is knowing what GOD has called or created us to do. And, not knowing who we are, thereby not knowing what to focus on, could mean missed Divine Opportunities. In the natural world I would liken a Divine Opportunity to a simple opportunity to run in a 5K (a little over 3 miles). When I had decided I wanted to run my first 5K, a few months before the race I started my training. Three days a week, I started walking three miles. By the time the 5K arrived, I could walk/slow run for over three miles. On the race day, I won my first sports medal: 1st Place for my age group. Wow! Focusing had paid off.
If we can focus on something in the natural and opportunities arise for us, how much better the opportunities if we focus on GOD’s specific call. Just think, if we know our own personal call from GOD, then we can focus on that specific call, practicing over and over so when Divine Opportunity arrives, we will successfully walk out what GOD has called us to do.
As we are focusing on doing GOD’s will for our lives, remember we have an ancient adversary whose only job is to knock us out of our place, and he is very good at it. We must become wise. How! Stay close to our Heavenly Father who never withholds information from us.
WE MUST FOCUS.
In these last of the last days, it is going to take focused concentration on HIS words because not only do we have an ancient adversary but also the craziness of social media. Bad or good social media can distract so much that we get nothing done.
So every morning:
1. Focus on where we are. Ephesians 2:6 “And has raised up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ.”
2. Focus on who we are: Ephesians 2:10 “For we are HIS workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which GOD hath before ordained that we should walk in them?
3. Focus on our own personal relationship with GOD. In other words: Get as close to GOD as we can. I believe the rest will all fall into place.
4. Turn off distractions and FOCUS where GOD has personally directed. The distractions are there to get us off our destinations.
First John 2:28 “And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”
Philippians 4:8 “Finally all you brothers and sister who are born again, THINK ON THESE THINGS: whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, good report, virtue and praise worthy things. Then the GOD of peace shall be with you.”
Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord GOD is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good will HE withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
well said, Karla, well said!
