“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high,
because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness–trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]” (AMPC Psalm 91:14).
For the past few months, Psalm 84 has been on my heart. It was written by the sons of Korah, descendants of the man swallowed up by the earth for his rebellion during the time of
Moses (Numbers 16:1-35; Numbers 26:9-11; Bolinger). These psalmists longed to know God more. The sons of Korah did not choose to live in bitterness, pride, or shame. Instead, they chose to let God love them, and they chose to pursue Him. They knew it was far better to be with God than anywhere else. They knew better. There is a profound testimony there! Hear their desire and their joy in these verses:
● “How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the
courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God” (Psalm 84:1-2).
● For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness” (Psalm 84:10).
The Lord has invited us into His courts. We do not have to sit outside the door anymore because of what Jesus has done for us, shedding His own Blood and making a way for us to enter into His throne room. We can boldly pursue Him because of our Savior (Hebrews 4:16). We are raised up with Him. We are seated in Him (Ephesians 2:6). Hallelujah! Oh to know Him more!
I have given Old Testament examples so far, but we have the Holy Spirit on the inside of us because we are under the New Covenant when we receive salvation. Let’s look at Paul, who gladly gave up all and counted all as loss to know our Lord Jesus Christ deeply (Lynne Hammond has a beautiful message where she references Paul’s pursuit). Paul boldly declared in Philippians 3:8, “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ”. Paul had such a deep and close relationship with the Lord and knew there was more to pursue, more to know about God. Paul trusted God because he had a relationship with God. He knew Him. There is always more for us to know about our amazing God.
Jesus told us some parables and asked us things like, “...when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). He taught us to be prepared and watchful as the five wise virgins who were prepared for the delay of the bridegroom because they had extra oil ready to keep their lamps burning (Matthew 25:1-13). How can we do this? As we get to know Him more, He will help us through the power of His Holy Spirit. He did this with the patriarchs and saints who have gone before us, like Abraham, Moses, and Paul. He will do this for us too, as we spend time in the Word and in prayer. As we spend time in the Holy Spirit, He helps us get ready, and we can be used to help others get ready too.
I love the meditation times during our REST meetings. Oh how the Lord pours out His
lovingkindness in those dear and tender moments, those sweet, refreshing times. I believe the
Lord is inviting us all into these sweet and refreshing times in His Presence (Acts 3:19). Will we let Him in? Will we let Him make the way in any situation we might be going through? He longs to spend time with us. Let us pursue Him and His Kingdom. He is faithful to provide all that we need (Matthew 6:33). Let us meet with Him in the Secret Place of the Most High. Let Him put His healing balm on us. Come to Him. Know Him deeper. As He said to Moses, “I know you by name” so He invites us to know Him by Name and to have a personal knowledge of Him, a PERSONAL knowledge through personal experience. Hallelujah! Let us hear our Father speak over us as He spoke over the psalmist in Psalm 91 (Psalm 91:14):
Because you, ______ [your name here], set your love upon Me, therefore I will deliver you; I will set you on high, because you know and understand My name. You have a personal knowledge of My mercy. You have a personal knowledge of My love. You have a personal knowledge of My kindness. You trust Me and you rely on Me, knowing I will never forsake you, no, never.
Blessings and great joy to all of you dear ones as you REST in God’s Presence.
