A Quiet Moment

This is such a simple concept... A Quiet Moment...and yet the value of this tool can be of great value. You might say that this tool is a mixture of some meditation principles, deep breathing techniques, and mindfulness awareness. It's just taking a moment (literally 1 to 5 minutes) to quiet yourself spirit, soul, and body.
There are so many things hitting our senses through the day. So many thoughts and emotions. So many experiences, expectations, stresses, etc. We often carry tension in our thoughts and our bodies without realizing it. We can go from one thing to the next in our day and not take a purposeful time to cleanse ourselves of the clutter and tension. And we know that built up clutter...stress...can create problems in our physical and emotional health.
So how can we practice this tool of "A Quiet Moment"?
Step 1: Sit or lay down somewhere that you can relax. One of my favorite spots is in a whirlpool hot tub or in a hot tub of water. But don't limit this experience just to the "ideal" spot. Many places can work for this.
Step 2: I choose to close my eyes and begin to take deeper and slower breaths to relax my body and calm my body.
Step 3: Calm my thoughts. This is a little more tricky. I find that my thoughts wonder off in so many different directions. Remember, this is not a time to problem solve or analyze. This is a time to turn off the busy work of your mind. I find focusing on the deep breathing helps focus my thoughts. Also I will use a word to focus on. It is a word that brings positive feelings to me (i.e. Peace, Love). I will say that word to myself to help focus my thoughts off of the busy work.
Step 4: Notice something in your immediate environment. Become present in your moment of time. Try to see how many things you can hear. Or focus on one specific sound (the sound of water, birds, music, etc.). You may choose to focus on what you feel or touch.
Step 5: Stay in this Quiet Moment for as long as you want. For me it has usually been in the 5 minute range before I can actually get to this place of quietness and rest. When I am finished I feel lighter and refreshed.
Extra Plus Step: For me, this step comes after Step 4. In this place of quietness I usually enter into a place of an inner dialogue between myself and my Father God. It is not so much about petitioning Him for things but thanking Him and just being aware of His presence with me. Being with Him and having an increased awareness of His presence in this quiet moment.
